As you might know, my friend Gemma Jane and I are making a children’s book. Gemma has written a small children’s story a while ago and she has asked me whether I was interested in illustrating it. Well, I was! Her book is a sweet story, that has a bit of a dark feel to it, so it’s right up my alley.
This project will take a while, because I will have to apply myself to making approximately 12 illustrations or more, which is a lot of work. But….. I need and love my work, so that’s no problem.
This illustration depicts the part where Grey meet the magical tree for the first time, who later becomes his friend. The tree is very colourful and pretty to see. For Grey, who has always lived down a well himself, this is rather a contrast to what he is used to seeing. And since his own skin is grey and covered in lichen, this must be quite a sight for him to see!
If you would like to follow our creative journey, please consider following our Facebook page, which is called ‘Book in Progress’. There Gemma and I both tell you about our adventures and about the hurdles we need to take. Our collaboration is going really well. We seem to understand each other very well and communicating with Gemma is easy and pleasant. So it is all looking very promising.
Of course I will keep you all posted about the book here too. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free.
